Daphnia

Daphnia is an tiny aquatic water flea that feeds on algae and that grows in large blooms that reach a peak in the summer.  Colour varies between light green and orange. Usually in areas of open water.

The sunnier the day the deeper the daphnia. On dull days or towards evening the daphnia will move closer to the surface.

Find the daphnia and you have found the fish.

Impossible to imitate, but fly’s with fluorescent greens & oranges coupled with white, black or flash and fished on various densities of sinking lines at the correct depth from a boat or float tube.  The technique is to count the line down until the taking depth is found and to always ‘ hang’ the top dropper just below the surface before lifting the flies out to recast.
