Boats

The Shetland Anglers Association has seven fibreglass boats for hire to members and visitors. The boats are on the following lochs:
  •  Spiggie Loch
  • Tingwall Loch
  • Benston Loch
  • Loch of Northhouse
  • Loch of Clousta
  • Sulma Water
  • Punds Water

The cost of  boat hire is £30.00 (payable at LHD Tackle Shop, Alexandra Buildings, Esplanade, Lerwick. Tel: 01595 692379. Or online, here) and this fee gives unlimited use of the boats for the whole season. Visitors can also purchase a boat ticket and the fee of £30.00 covers unlimited use during their visit. The boats are secured with combination padlocks (the same number covers all boat) and the combination is changed every season.

Day use of the boats should be booked through LHD Tackle Shop (Tel: 01595 692379). If the boats are not taken up by 10.00am, they then become available to combination holders (local or visitors) on a first come basis.

Advice about the hire of lifejackets can be obtained from 01595 696025.

The following information will be of use to boat users:

  • Always check the local weather forecast before arranging a day’s boat fishing.
  • It is recommended that life jackets are worn ( Tel 01595 696025 for hire information)
  • Do not stand up when fishing
  • Use of a drogue is recommended in Shetland lochs
  • Take a cork bung and a bailer with you, in case these items have blown out of the boat.
  • There is no outboard engine hire available in Shetland
  • Only electric engines are allowed on Spiggie Loch
  • The boats are well maintained, but please report any damages or breakages to the SAA secretary on 01595 696025
